Leverage My Giftings
Scott’s previous experience, the Leading by Design content, and his heart to serve others through coaching has been professionally transformative and personally life-changing for me over the last few years. His coaching has helped me gain insights into my strengths and values and methods to leverage my own giftings while also leaning into others I lead and work with to maximize their contributions. My perspectives of delegation and coaching of those I lead have also changed and grown. As a result, I feel more thoughtful in my leadership, encouraged in my roles, and hopefully, a more skillful coach to intentionally care and develop those I’ve been entrusted with. I always look forward to my appointments with Scott!Collin RussProgram Director, The Navigators
Effective Team Building
Leading by Design ‘rocks’ as a unique, God-honoring ministry to help maximize individual and team potential for the Lord’s good works. Our small, 5-couple ministry team at Tun Tavern Fellowship (TTF) was richly blessed by Scott’s personal, professional, and efficient strengths coaching, both leading up to and then through a recent ministry team couples retreat. Effectively using video conference calls in the months prior to our retreat, Scott quickly got to know our team and coached each of us individually through the necessary foundations and then the personal application of our God-given strengths. During our team retreat, Scott leveraged his military career’s worth of leadership and PhD-level education to facilitate multiple group sessions with warmth and effective team-building exercises to provide insights that will strengthen our ministry for God’s glory.Mike WestDirector, Tun Tavern Fellowship
Uniquely Good
Everyone is wired differently. Yet, not everyone truly understands how they have been personally wired. That God would uniquely design people using an array of talents which have the potential to help this world flourish is an amazing extension of His grace. As I have personally learned from Scott, building upon those raw talents is a must in order to make the most of them with meaning and purpose. I have the joy of being the lead pastor of a local church and helping others grow in their relationship with Jesus Christ. As great as that is, I must be growing myself with intention and within the ways God has designed me. What Scott has done and continues to do in our time together is help me lead others in a way that honors the uniqueness of my life while also challenging me to have a deep appreciation for the ways in which others are different from me. It is in those differences working together where Jesus is best revealed to this world.Timothy HawkinsPastor
Christ-focused Coach
I found myself at a major crossroads: I was about to become retirement eligible. Would I stay in the military longer or part ways and start new opportunities? When you have been doing something for 23 years, making a transition is a scary proposition. It is also a time of excitement. The main question deep inside: what is God calling me to do? What qualities that He has imparted to me would best serve my part in His great plan? How do I satisfy this deep internal longing to do God's will while overcoming the fear and uncertainty of starting a new career? The military and other companies provide transition programs. There are plenty of books on career selection. However, what I needed was a Christ-centered program with a very personal touch. Scott was a mentor I had known for years. After a lot of prayer about my future, I found it amazing that our paths happened to cross again. When I discovered he was a certified YourOneDegree coach, I felt that this opportunity was a blessing from God, designed to help me navigate these unchartered waters. The program has given me the opportunity for prayerful self-reflection and I have discovered things about myself that were perhaps invisible to me even a year ago. I don't yet know what my future holds. But I am able to take comfort in that my journey has a Christ-centered focus with a coach who wants me to realize how my unique design fits into God's plan. I am grateful for Scott and the YourOneDegree process for this amazing opportunity to help with my transition into the next stage of life.David TalafuseMiddle School Interventionist & Athletic Director
Learning How to Lead with a Shepherd's Heart
What began as weekly rides to celebrate our joint love of cycling has turned into regular coaching sessions with Scott. In one session, we were walking through my strength and challenge areas within the Trusted Leader Model. What I thought to be a strength, Scott gently suggested that he saw it as an area of opportunity. With the door opened, God stepped through and pressed a bit harder. “Matt, I know you care for people but is it genuinely for their sake or for yours?” Through my conversation with Scott, and subsequent follow-through with the Lord, I was challenged that leading with a Shepherd’s heart means not just caring “enough” to see my goals accomplished but having a deep, genuine care and concern for the souls of those whom God places around me.Matt LindellExecutive Director, Not Alone Ministries
Natural and intentional
As a young leader in a busy and highly demanding educational environment, I found that the constant needs, issues, and urgent tasks were driving me to constantly be in a state of reaction. Over time, Scott has guided me through a process and model that provides a broader, more personal framework that allows me to step back, see the big picture, and truly connect with people in spite of the busy circumstances. It has been such a welcome relief and provided rest for my soul to no longer be living in a place of constant reaction or feeling the pressure to implement the latest leadership formula or trends, but instead engaging in an approach that is natural and intentional. I see it bringing life to those I engage with on a daily basis and to myself as well.Ryan HewittPrincipal, The University School of Colorado
